Unlike AHAs (which work on the skin’s surface), salicylic acid is lipophilic — it penetrates into the sebaceous follicle where it exfoliates the keratinized cellular debris that, when mixed with excess sebum, produces comedones and congestion. Used in a wash-off cleanser, salicylic acid provides meaningful follicular exfoliation with a lower irritation risk than leave-on BHA products.

Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree) Leaf Oil: A well-researched antimicrobial botanical with documented activity against Cutibacterium acnes — the commensal bacterium whose overgrowth in the anaerobic, sebum-rich environment of a blocked follicle contributes to skin congestion and visible blemishes. How to use
