The serum and the Vita-Antioxidant Defence Crème — why both are needed

The Youth EssentiA system is built around a two-product active step: serum first, crème over it. This is not redundancy — the two products serve distinct functional roles and their combined use produces better clinical outcomes than either alone.

The serum delivers concentrated actives (vitamin A, C, peptides, antioxidants, ceramides) to freshly toned skin in a lightweight, fast-penetrating format. The Defence Crème then creates a semi-occlusive layer over the serum that slows transepidermal water loss, extends the contact time of the serum’s actives with the skin, and delivers its own complement of vitamins and emollients to support barrier conditioning.

Key ingredients in the Defence Crème

The Defence Crème contains vitamin C (as Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate), and vitamin E (as Tocopheryl Acetate and Tocopherol) — effectively meaning that the combined serum-plus-crème application delivers a broader retinoid and antioxidant dose than either product alone. This combined delivery is by design, and it is why Environ recommends using both products together rather than substituting one for the other.

The emollient system includes a combination of Jojoba Seed Oil, Sunflower Seed Oil, and Squalane for lightweight barrier conditioning; Panthenol for soothing and moisture-retention support; and Sodium Hyaluronate for immediate surface hydration. The formula also contains the same Epigallocatechin Gallate (EGCG) and Lycopene antioxidants present in the serums, ensuring continuity of the antioxidant defence complex throughout the active treatment layer.

Who it’s for

The Defence Crème is paired with Serums 1–4 (standard concentration range). Once the skin progresses to Vita-Peptide Intensive Serum 4 Plus, it transitions to the Defence Crème Plus, which contains an increased vitamin A concentration matched to the final-step serum. How to use

After applying your Youth EssentiA serum, apply the Defence Crème over the full face and neck. Alternatively, mix equal quantities of serum and crème in the palm of your hand before applying. Use morning and evening.
