Concentrated Alpha Hydroxy Toner – When exfoliation becomes a treatment step

The Concentrated Alpha Hydroxy Toner occupies a distinct clinical position within the Focus Care Youth+ range: it is not a balancing or priming toner in the conventional sense, but an active exfoliant formulated to address the impaired natural cell turnover that characterises photo-aged and chronologically aged skin. As skin ages, the rate of epidermal cell turnover slows — devitalized cells accumulate on the surface for longer, producing dullness, uneven texture, and a surface that is less receptive to the active ingredients applied over it. This toner corrects that directly.

Concentrated Alpha Hydroxy Toner key ingredient and mechanism

Glycolic Acid (AHA): The smallest molecular weight alpha-hydroxy acid, glycolic acid penetrates the stratum corneum more deeply than lactic, mandelic, or tartaric acid. At the concentration used in this formula, it breaks the bonds between dead corneocytes (stratum corneum cells), accelerating their removal and revealing the more hydrated, even-toned cells beneath. Used consistently, glycolic acid is one of the most evidence-supported topical approaches for improving the appearance of fine lines, uneven pigmentation, and the thickened, rough surface texture associated with cumulative UV damage.

Tocopherol (Vitamin E): Included to buffer the potential irritation associated with concentrated glycolic acid and to provide antioxidant protection at the skin surface.

The Concentrated Alpha Hydroxy Toner is formulated for normal, combination, oily and acne-prone skin types managing photo-damage, uneven texture, dull tone, and the signs of chronological and UV-induced skin ageing. It is explicitly noted as not suitable for sensitive skin — for reactive or rosacea-prone skin, the Botanical Infused Moisturizing Toner from the Skin EssentiA range is the appropriate alternative. How to use

After pre-cleansing and cleansing, apply to a cotton pad and wipe gently over the face and neck. Allow to dry fully before applying treatment serums or vitamin A moisturiser. Use morning and/or evening. Note that AHA use increases UV sensitivity — daily broad-spectrum sun protection is essential.
