D3+K2 Key Benefits & Actions
- Vitamk7™ MK-7 — naturally derived, solvent-free K2 via patent-granted Bacillus subtilis natto biofermentation*
- MK-7’s long side chain provides superior extrahepatic bioavailability and a 72-hour plasma half-life versus 1–2 hours for MK-4*
- Activates osteocalcin — the bone protein that binds calcium into hydroxyapatite crystal structure for healthy bone mineral density*
- Activates Matrix GLA Protein (MGP) — the body’s most potent known inhibitor of vascular calcium deposition*
- Supports healthy calcium distribution — directing calcium absorbed through vitamin D3 into bone rather than soft tissues*
- 5000 IU vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) supports healthy immune function, mood, and nervous system regulation*
- Supports healthy blood clotting through vitamin K2’s role in clotting factor carboxylation*
- Supports dental health through calcium and vitamin K2’s role in dentin matrix protein activation*
D3+K2 is built around a clinically important insight that is frequently overlooked in vitamin D3 supplementation: vitamin D3 and vitamin K2 are interdependent partners, and supplementing one without the other leaves a critical physiological step unsupported — and may create unintended consequences.
Why D3 and K2 Must Work Together
Vitamin D3 is a potent stimulator of intestinal calcium absorption. With adequate vitamin D3, calcium absorption from the small intestine increases substantially — from approximately 10–15% without vitamin D3 to 30–40% with optimal levels. This calcium enters systemic circulation and must then be precisely directed: into bone tissue, where it is needed, and away from soft tissues and arterial walls, where its deposition is undesirable.
This directional step is entirely dependent on vitamin K2-activated proteins. Without adequate vitamin K2, two critical proteins remain in their inactive, undercarboxylated forms:
Osteocalcin — the bone matrix protein produced by osteoblasts (bone-building cells). When properly activated by vitamin K2, osteocalcin binds calcium ions and incorporates them into the hydroxyapatite crystal structure of bone, supporting healthy bone mineral density. Undercarboxylated osteocalcin cannot bind calcium effectively regardless of how much vitamin D3 or dietary calcium is present.*
Matrix GLA Protein (MGP) — found in blood vessel walls and soft tissues throughout the body. When activated by vitamin K2, MGP is the body’s most potent known inhibitor of vascular calcium deposition, supporting healthy arterial flexibility and cardiovascular function. Without vitamin K2 activation, MGP remains inactive, and circulating calcium may accumulate in arterial walls and soft tissues.*
Vitamk7™ — Why Form Matters in Vitamin K2 Not all vitamin K2 supplements are equivalent. Vitamin K2 exists in several forms — MK-4 and MK-7 being the most common in supplements — with meaningfully different pharmacokinetic profiles:
MK-4 has a plasma half-life of 1–2 hours. A single daily dose provides only brief active K2 coverage and requires multiple doses throughout the day to maintain consistent activity.
MK-7 (menaquinone-7) has a plasma half-life of approximately 72 hours — meaning a single daily dose maintains active vitamin K2 levels throughout the full 24-hour period. MK-7’s longer aliphatic side chain makes it highly hydrophobic, giving it superior transportability by plasma lipoproteins and significantly greater bioavailability in extrahepatic tissues — bones, arteries, and other peripheral tissues — where its activity is most needed.*
D3+K2 provides vitamin K2 exclusively as Vitamk7™ — a naturally derived, solvent-free MK-7 produced through a patent-granted biofermentation process using Bacillus subtilis natto. This manufacturing approach ensures a clean, natural-source MK-7 free of synthetic processing solvents.*
Vitamin D3 (Cholecalciferol) — 5000 IU D3+K2 provides vitamin D3 as cholecalciferol — the identical form in which vitamin D is synthesized in human skin in response to UVB sun exposure. At 5000 IU per capsule, this is a therapeutic-range dose appropriate for individuals who are vitamin D insufficient or deficient, or who have elevated physiological demands. Vitamin D3 receptors (VDRs) have been identified in virtually every tissue in the body — reflecting vitamin D3’s extraordinary breadth of physiological influence, including immune function, mood regulation, neurological health, and musculoskeletal health.*
