Unique Verve’s Vitamin K2 Supplement Key Benefits & Actions:
- Vitamk7™ MK-7 — naturally derived, solvent-free vitamin K2 via patent-granted Bacillus subtilis natto biofermentation*
- Superior extrahepatic bioavailability: MK-7 demonstrates 6x better half-life and 7–8x higher dose-response than K1 in human studies*
- Activates osteocalcin — the bone protein that carboxylates to bind calcium into hydroxyapatite crystal structure for healthy bone mineralization*
- Activates Matrix GLA Protein (MGP) — the body’s most potent known inhibitor of vascular calcium deposition — supporting healthy arterial flexibility*
- Supports healthy calcium distribution: directs calcium absorbed through diet and vitamin D3 into bone tissue rather than soft tissues*
- Supports healthy blood clotting through vitamin K2’s role in carboxylating clotting factors II, VII, IX, and X*
- Supports dental health through K2’s role in activating osteocalcin in dentin matrix protein formation*
- Works synergistically with vitamin D3 — vitamin D3 increases calcium absorption while K2 directs that calcium appropriately*
Unique Verve’s Vitamin K2 supplement delivers vitamin K2 exclusively as Vitamk7™ — the most bioavailable and clinically studied form of vitamin K2 — providing 180 mcg per capsule in a formula designed to support the full range of vitamin K2’s physiological roles in bone health, cardiovascular function, and blood coagulation.
Understanding Vitamin K2 Forms
Naturally occurring vitamin K exists in two primary forms: K1 (phylloquinone), derived from green leafy vegetables and concentrated primarily in the liver, and K2 (menaquinones), synthesized by bacteria and found in animal-based and fermented foods. Among menaquinones, the most clinically relevant forms are MK-4 and MK-7 — with MK-7 demonstrating significantly superior pharmacokinetic properties.
MK-7’s longer aliphatic side chain makes it highly hydrophobic — a property that dramatically improves its transportability by plasma lipoproteins and its bioavailability in extrahepatic tissues (bones, arteries, and other peripheral tissues) where its activity is most needed. In contrast to K1, which is rapidly cleared by the liver, MK-7 circulates in plasma for days, supporting sustained carboxylation of K2-dependent proteins throughout the body.*
Vitamk7™ — Clinical Research K2 provides MK-7 as Vitamk7™, produced by Bio&Vita through a patent-granted biofermentation process of Bacillus subtilis natto cultures. Unlike synthetically derived MK-7 or solvent-extracted forms, Vitamk7™ is naturally derived and solvent-free, ensuring a clean, uncontaminated source of MK-7.
Human pharmacokinetic studies by Schurgers et al comparing K1 and MK-7 demonstrated that MK-7 achieves a six-fold better plasma half-life, a seven- to eight-fold higher dose-response level, and a three times higher ratio of carboxylated to uncarboxylated osteocalcin (cOC:ucOC) — a direct measure of MK-7’s ability to activate the bone protein osteocalcin at tissue level. On a molar basis, MK-7 is three to four times more potent than K1 in its extrahepatic activity.*
Osteocalcin and Bone Mineralization Osteocalcin is a protein produced by osteoblasts — the bone-building cells responsible for depositing new bone mineral. In its inactive, undercarboxylated form, osteocalcin cannot bind calcium ions effectively. Vitamin K2-dependent gamma-carboxylation activates osteocalcin, enabling it to bind calcium and incorporate it into the hydroxyapatite crystal structure of bone — the process that determines bone mineral density and bone quality. Adequate vitamin K2 status is essential for this carboxylation step, regardless of calcium or vitamin D3 intake.*
Matrix GLA Protein (MGP) and Cardiovascular Health Matrix GLA Protein (MGP) is a vitamin K2-dependent protein found in blood vessel walls and soft tissues throughout the body. In its active, carboxylated form, MGP is the body’s most potent known inhibitor of vascular and soft tissue calcification — it actively prevents calcium from depositing in arterial walls and other non-skeletal tissues. Without adequate vitamin K2 to carboxylate MGP, vascular calcium deposition is unsupported — a significant concern given the increasing awareness of the relationship between vascular calcification and cardiovascular health.*
Research has demonstrated that populations with higher menaquinone intake have higher rates of carboxylated MGP — reflecting adequate vitamin K2 activity in vascular tissue.*
The D3 and K2 Synergy Vitamin K2 works most effectively in conjunction with vitamin D3. Vitamin D3 dramatically increases intestinal calcium absorption — raising the pool of circulating calcium available to tissues. Vitamin K2 then directs that calcium appropriately through osteocalcin and MGP activation — into bone tissue and away from arterial walls. This partnership explains why individuals supplementing with vitamin D3 alone — particularly at higher doses — benefit significantly from concurrent vitamin K2 supplementation.*
Blood Clotting Support Vitamin K2 is a required cofactor for the gamma-carboxylation of clotting factors II (prothrombin), VII, IX, and X in the coagulation cascade, as well as the anticoagulant proteins C and S. Adequate vitamin K2 status supports healthy, balanced blood clotting function.*
Important: Individuals taking warfarin or other anticoagulant medications should consult their healthcare practitioner before using any vitamin K supplement, as vitamin K can interact with anticoagulant therapy. Research suggests that doses above 50 mcg/day of MK-7 may affect INR values in sensitive individuals on anticoagulants — clinical monitoring is advised.
