Description
Colostrum is not a trend — it’s a biological toolkit
Bovine colostrum is the first milk produced in the hours immediately following birth, before regular milk production begins. It exists for one purpose: to deliver a concentrated, bioavailable package of immune and growth factors to a newborn with an immature immune and barrier system. In that context, it contains immunoglobulins (IgG, IgA, IgM) that provide passive immune protection; growth factors including IGF-1, EGF (Epidermal Growth Factor), and TGF-β that drive tissue development and repair; lactoferrin with antimicrobial properties; and proline-rich polypeptides (PRPs) that modulate immune and inflammatory responses.
When applied topically to compromised or chronically inflamed skin, these components have a different application — but a clinically coherent one. The same mechanisms that support barrier and immune development in a newborn have demonstrated relevance to adult skin experiencing barrier breakdown, chronic low-grade inflammation, and impaired repair capacity. EGF in particular has an established topical benefit in accelerating epidermal repair. PRPs have immunomodulatory properties relevant to the dysregulated inflammatory signalling underlying rosacea and eczema.
The additional ingredients and why they matter
Cimicifuga Racemosa Root Extract (Black Cohosh): A phytoestrogenic botanical whose inclusion directly addresses one of the most underrecognized drivers of skin reactivity: declining oestrogen. Oestrogen receptors are present throughout the skin — in keratinocytes, fibroblasts, sebaceous glands, and hair follicles. As oestrogen declines during perimenopause, the skin loses collagen density, moisture retention, barrier lipid synthesis, and its tolerance for reactive stressors. Black Cohosh Extract provides a topical phytoestrogenic signal that helps offset some of this decline at the tissue level. Environ explicitly notes this product is “for men going through andropause and women during menopause,” which directly acknowledges this hormonal mechanism.
Epigallocatechin Gallate (EGCG): The primary polyphenol from green tea, with well-documented anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and photoprotective properties. Particularly relevant as a topical anti-inflammatory for rosacea-prone skin.
Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate (vitamin C): A stable, water-soluble vitamin C derivative that provides antioxidant protection without the irritation potential of ascorbic acid — critical for a product designed for reactive skin.
Tocopheryl Acetate (vitamin E): Synergistic antioxidant support and barrier conditioning.
Rosemary Leaf Extract: An additional antioxidant botanical with skin-soothing properties.
Who it’s for
The Vita-Enriched Colostrum Gel occupies a specific clinical position: it is for skin where the barrier and immune response need direct support, not merely symptom management. The clearest indications are:
Rosacea — particularly when histamine-driven flushing, visible inflammation, and barrier fragility are the predominant presentation. The intersection of gut dysbiosis, immune dysregulation, and barrier dysfunction in rosacea maps directly to what colostrum’s growth factors and immunoglobulins are designed to address. For a deeper understanding of the root causes driving rosacea, see our Rosacea Root Cause post.
Perimenopause and menopause — where declining oestrogen is directly disrupting barrier function, increasing skin reactivity, and reducing the skin’s capacity for self-repair. The Black Cohosh Extract in this formula makes it uniquely positioned for this hormonal transition. For more on the rosacea-perimenopause intersection specifically, see Rosacea & Perimenopause: What the Research Shows.
Eczema and chronic barrier compromise — where immune dysregulation at the skin level perpetuates a cycle of impaired barrier function and escalating reactivity.
Post-procedure recovery — after microneedling, chemical peels, or other in-clinic treatments where the skin’s repair mechanisms need active support.
Sensitive skin at the start of an AVST vitamin A routine — where colostrum’s barrier and immune support can reduce the risk of reactivity during the introduction phase.
How to use
After pre-cleansing, cleansing, and toning, apply the Colostrum Gel to the face and neck. Follow with your recommended Environ vitamin A moisturiser. Use morning and/or evening. May be spot-applied to particularly reactive areas. Note the relatively short shelf life after opening (6–8 weeks) — this reflects the bioactive nature of the colostrum component and the absence of heavy preservatives. The formula is lightly fragranced with Lavender.
This product does not contain a sunscreen.
