GI-MaxAid Key Benefits & Actions:
- L-glutamine serves as the primary fuel and nitrogen source for intestinal epithelial cells — foundational to mucosal lining integrity*
- Arabinogalactan (Larch tree) contributes fermentable prebiotic fiber and supports healthy short-chain fatty acid (SCFA) production*
- Arabinogalactan supports healthy gut microflora populations and minimizes ammonia synthesis and absorption in the colon*
- DGL licorice 10:1 concentrated extract supports healthy GI mucosal comfort — with glycyrrhizin removed to eliminate associated side effects*
- Aloe vera leaf gel extract (standardized to 50% polysaccharides) supports healthy GI epithelial tissue and intestinal comfort*
- Supports healthy tight junction function and intestinal barrier integrity at the cellular level*
- Supports healthy GI immune function through arabinogalactan’s immunomodulatory polysaccharide activity*
- Powder format allows flexible dosing and direct mucosal contact throughout the GI tract*
GI-MaxAid is built on a foundational principle of functional gut medicine: you cannot optimize gut health without first addressing the integrity of the gut lining itself. The intestinal epithelium — a single cell layer thick — is the boundary between the contents of the gut and systemic circulation. When this barrier functions optimally, it selectively allows nutrients through while preventing the passage of undigested food particles, microbial components, and other gut contents into the bloodstream.
GI-MaxAid provides four synergistic ingredients, each with a distinct mechanism:
L-Glutamine L-glutamine is the most abundant free-form amino acid in the body and serves as the predominant fuel and nitrogen source for the mucosal lining of the gastrointestinal tract. Intestinal epithelial cells (enterocytes) have extraordinarily high turnover rates — the intestinal lining replaces itself approximately every 3–5 days — and this rapid cell proliferation demands a continuous glutamine supply as both an energy substrate and a nitrogen donor for nucleotide synthesis.
During periods of physiological stress, illness, or intense physical demand, the body’s endogenous glutamine synthesis may be insufficient to meet the intestinal epithelium’s requirements. When glutamine supply is inadequate, gut epithelial turnover is impaired and mucosal integrity can be compromised. Glutamine is also an important transporter of nitrogen in the body and plays a vital role in wound healing across multiple tissue types.*
Arabinogalactan (from Larix laricina — Larch Tree Heartwood) Arabinogalactan is a polysaccharide derived from the heartwood of the Larch tree. It contributes two distinct and complementary functions to this formula. First, as a fermentable prebiotic fiber, it is readily utilized by beneficial colonic bacteria — particularly Bifidobacterium and Lactobacillus species — as a fermentation substrate, promoting the production of short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) including butyrate, propionate, and acetate.
SCFAs are the primary energy source for colonocytes (colon lining cells) and play a critical role in supporting healthy gut barrier function and healthy immune regulation in the colon.* Second, arabinogalactan has immunomodulatory properties — it supports healthy gut immune function through its interaction with gut-associated lymphoid tissue (GALT) and helps minimize ammonia synthesis and absorption in the colon, supporting a healthy gut microflora environment.*
Deglycyrrhizinated Licorice (DGL) 10:1 Aqueous Extract Licorice root (Glycyrrhiza glabra) has a centuries-long history of traditional use in GI supportive medicine. The primary concern with standard licorice supplementation — elevated blood pressure through glycyrrhizin’s aldosterone-like effect — is entirely eliminated in this formulation, in which glycyrrhizin has been specifically removed through aqueous processing, leaving only the beneficial mucilage-forming compounds. The resulting DGL extract is concentrated at a 10:1 ratio for enhanced potency. DGL supports a healthy gastric and intestinal mucosal environment through its anti-spasmodic properties and soothing effect on GI epithelial surfaces, and promotes healthy mucin secretion from the mucosal lining.*
Aloe Vera Leaf Gel Extract (200:1, Standardized to 50% Polysaccharides) Aloe vera has been used for thousands of years across multiple traditional medicine systems for its soothing effects on epithelial tissue. The standardized aloe vera leaf gel extract in GI-MaxAid is concentrated at a 200:1 ratio and standardized to 50% polysaccharides — primarily acemannan and other bioactive glucomannans. These polysaccharides support healthy GI epithelial cell function, promote healthy mucin production, modulate the GI immune response, and may support healthy GI transit time and protein digestibility. The inner leaf gel (not the latex layer, which has been removed) is the clinically relevant component.*
GI-MaxAid is most effective as a component of a comprehensive gut restoration protocol alongside Digestive Enzymes (supporting complete food breakdown before it reaches the intestinal lining), Probiotic Integrum (beneficial gut microbiota reseeding), and Candida Herbal Blend (gut microbiome balance support) when clinically indicated.
